Double-race weekend in Barcelona behind closed doors

Double-race weekend in Barcelona behind closed doors: Logitech G World RX of Pirineus-Barcelona 2030 and Logitech G World RX of Catalunya-Barcelona

Until a few days ago, the World RX of Catalunya-Barcelona was to host the eighth round of the FIA World Rallycross Championships, a race that was to be held over the weekend of October 17th and 18th. Last Wednesday, everything changed when FIA confirmed the cancellation of the World RX in Portugal and announced that the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit would hold two rounds in a single weekend.

This format has already been repeated in the last three venues of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2020, in Sweden (R1 and R2), Finland (R3 and R4) and Riga-Latvia (R5 and R6). This is a new format, that helps to reduce teams trips, thus increasing safety in relation to the Covid-19.

The rallycross will therefore arrive in Catalonia under two names: the Logitech G World RX of Pirineus-Barcelona 2030 and the Logitech G World RX of Catalunya-Barcelona. Each of the two rounds will be held in its entirety in a single day. The first race, which will take place on Saturday October 17th and will correspond to the seventh round (R7) of the World RX, will be called Pirineus-Barcelona 2030.

The second test, which will be held on Sunday October 18th, will correspond to the eighth round (R8) of the World RX and will be the Logitech G World RX of Catalonia-Barcelona, with the incorporation of Logitech G, a new sponsor for the event. In both days, fans will be able to see the competitions corresponding to the World RX categories with the Supercars and the EuroRX with the Super1600. By reducing the competition to one day, the fourth qualifying session is not held and each competition will have: Q1, Q2, Q3, semifinals and final.

Behind closed doors

Due to the health crisis resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic and the current situation in Catalonia, the organization, together with the local authorities and the international promoter, has decided to hold the event behind closed doors. This difficult decision has been made according to public health criteria, in order to ensure the safety and health of all people involved in the event. As for the information on the ticket refund, it is now available on the event’s website, www.catalunyarx.cat
