The official presentation of the Vueling Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona took place today at Arc de Triomf, one of the most emblematic places in the city and a point through which the race, which will be held on Sunday, October 22 at 9:00 a.m., passes. This edition marks a special milestone in the calendar of 10-kilometer races, with the homologation of the Catalan Athletics Federation and an innovative route that incorporates, for the first time, the Poble Nou neighborhood. With an impressive figure of over 13,500 runners, representing an increase of 15% over the previous year, the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona reaffirms its position as one of the most popular races in the city, with an outstanding 38.6% of female entries.

La Vueling Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona has always been a special date in the world of running in Barcelona. In this edition, the original 12,500 bibs put on sale were sold out, and due to the strong demand and requests from runners who did not want to miss the opportunity to run alongside members of the fire department, SevenMila has released 1,000 additional bibs last Sunday.

David Escudé, Barcelona’s Sports Councilor, announced at the press conference that the numbers for the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona 2023 have been sold out, reflecting the enthusiasm of the runners for the new circuit.

As every year, the thousands of runners who will take part in the race will be accompanied by more than 300 firefighters from the Barcelona and Generalitat de Catalunya fire departments, who will wear their service uniform and carry more than 20 kg of equipment as they complete the 10 km of the race.

The director of the Barcelona Fire Department, Sebastià Massagué, confirmed the participation of more than 300 firefighters in the race, some of them in uniform, and stressed the importance of the race’s slogan, which reflects the values of the force and turns the race into a celebration of solidarity.

The race has undergone a significant change in its route, designed to provide runners with a faster and smoother experience. The circuit, which starts and ends at Passeig Picasso, runs 10 kilometers on a 360-degree route that eliminates, for the first time, a 200-meter stretch on Avinguda Paral-lel, the only hilly section of the race.

Roger Roca, sports director of the race, also wanted to explain the following: “Our goal was to create a faster circuit for runners, while maintaining the essence of the Vueling Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona present in the 23 previous editions.”

This edition features a new T-shirt sponsored by Decathlon, consisting of a yellow T-shirt with subtle horizontal stripes in homage to the characteristic attire of the city’s fire department. The slogan chosen for this edition, “We watch, protect and run”, is in the center of the T-shirt, accompanied by a design showing a red firefighter’s helmet and the race logo at the top left. Participants will be able to pick up the T-shirt along with their race bib and a gymsack from Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 at various collection points provided by Decathlon.

Anna Viladot, communications manager for Vueling Airlines, reiterated the airline’s commitment as a sponsor of the race, highlighting its connection to Barcelona and its pride in supporting the firefighters with more than 400 participants from the Vueling team.

In this edition, elite runners such as Cristina Silva will compete for the title of champions. Silva is aiming to win the race, having placed third in previous editions. Awards will also be given to the top three runners in the male and female categories, in addition to the best male and female firefighter.

The Vueling Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona 2023 continues with its solidarity task, collaborating with ‘my grain of sand’ so that runners can make a solidary difference. Through this foundation, participants can create challenges with economic objectives in favor of non-profit entities in areas such as health, medical research, social inclusion, international cooperation, childhood, environment and more. So far, more than 20,000 euros have been raised through 11 challenges promoted by Bomberos Solidarios through the migranodearena.org portal.

With only four days left, Barcelona is getting ready for a day of sport, fun and solidarity with the 24th edition of the Vueling Carrera Bomberos Barcelona.
