• Kevin Hansen wins the FIA World RX Catalunya ahead of world champions Timmy Hansen and Johan Kristoffersson.
  • The stands of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya have been filled again with public to live the first round of the 2021 World Rallycross Championship.

Script twist in the second day of the FIA World RX of Catalunya 2021. The movie started on Friday afternoon with a great domination of the Swedish driver Johan Kristoffersson after the first two qualifying heats, although he was finally disqualified from Q1 due to problems with the device that transmits the data to the FIA. This Saturday the positions were exchanged and the triumph went to the youngest of the Hansen family, Kevin, who celebrated the first place with great joy together with his brother Timmy, who finished second and finally Kristoffersson closed the podium.

“I have worked very hard to get this victory all winter and I have been waiting for it for a long time. I am very happy,” said Kevin Hansen after celebrating with great energy this first win of the season. His brother Timmy added: “I’m super proud of Kevin, he did a great job. We had a plan on how to get through the first corners, and we carried it out perfectly”. For his part, his compatriot, who was driving his Audi S1 for the first time, was not as happy as he had hoped. Kristoffersson said: “The result is good. We are on the podium and it’s more than I expected if you ask me yesterday. Still, it’s clear that I want more. This weekend shows us that anything can happen in Rallycross racing.”

The public vibrates again at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been the scene of this film where the Nordics have been the main protagonists and where the Catalan public has filled the stands to the limit allowed by the Covid19 prevention protocol regulations. The fans have enjoyed two spectacular sessions where around 50 races have been held and have lived many emotions with constant overtaking and collisions between cars.

The premiere of the electric cars, protagonist

The Catalunya RX has been a great demonstration of how electric cars can offer a great show to fans and motorsport enthusiasts. They have been the protagonists with races with a lot of contact and that the public has enjoyed from start to finish. The young driver from the Canary Islands, Pablo Suarez, was one of the surprises and he narrowly missed the podium, crossing the finish line of the final in fourth position. He will surely be one of the drivers to follow throughout the season.

Car Cross also has its place in Catalunya RX

This weekend was held the V Open Car Cross Catalunya RX, an event that offers local drivers the opportunity to race in front of their home crowd. Today the great protagonist has been Ares Lahoz. The female representative has led all day and in the final, when she was in the lead with a difference with respect to his pursuer, the engine of his car cross has said enough.
