Madrid Urban Sports gets the Best adapted event Award
- The sports tv channel from IMG, EDGE Sport, has awarded Madrid Urban Sports as the Best adapted event in 2020.
2 February, Madrid
The first edition of any event is always very important, it marks a before and after. 2020 was the first year in which Madrid Urban Sports, the festival of sports, music and urban culture in the Spanish capital, had to be held, but the Covid-19 pandemic put a barrier to it. Madrid Urban Sports has jumped that barrier and not only has it reached more than 16M impressions in its first edition, it has also obtained its first award: Prize for the best adapted event of 2020, awarded by the EDGE Sport television network.
Madrid Urban Sports had to land in Madrid Río – Matadero in April 2020 with a great deployment. The situation changed and from the institutions, the Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid, as well as from SevenMila, the organizing company, a solution was sought so that Madrid Urban Sports could be held in 2020. And so, it was. A new online competition format was created that allowed the best international skateboarders, scooters and BMX athletes, some of them in Olympic teams, to compete from their respective countries. This ability to adapt and to bring sport around the world has been what the Edge Sport sports television network wanted to highlight by awarding Madrid Urban Sports as the best adapted event of 2020.
The councilor delegate of the Sports Area of the Madrid City Council, Sofía Miranda, has been very proud of this award “which highlights the work that has been done by the Madrid city council to adapt to the circumstances“. “From minute one we were clear that sport cannot stop, and we did our best together with the organizers of Madrid Urban Sports to be able to carry out this exciting competition in an adapted and safe way,” said Miranda.
The Deputy Minister of Sports of the Community of Madrid, Roberto Núñez, has added: “The first thing I want to do is congratulate Urban Sports for the award it has received. It is an award for a job well done and, furthermore, in a situation as complicated as the one we are experiencing. The event they organized in the Community of Madrid is a great example that we can adapt to circumstances and continue working for the development of sport. “
Víctor Casanovas, director of digital strategy at SevenMila, thanked EDGE Sport for the award: “for us it is very gratifying to receive this award, it has been a very complicated year for the companies that are dedicated to organizing events. Managing to transform a street sports competition into a digital version has been a great challenge”.
Both institutions and the organization are already working so that Madrid Urban Sports can reach the streets of Madrid at the end of the year, as soon as that the pandemic allows it.
