Great success of participation of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona in its 22nd edition. The popular event returned with force after a year of hiatus due to the pandemic of covid-19, and did so by becoming the popular race in Barcelona with more participants in 2021.

More than 11,000 runners took part in a start divided into three boxes that were led, as is traditional, by the Barcelona Firefighters.

High level of runners

The champion in the men’s category was Abdesamad Oukhelfen who crossed the finish line in first position with a time of 28:19 minutes. The athlete based in Reus was very satisfied with the victory: “I am delighted to win in what I consider my home, it is very special. I’m already thinking about coming back next year”. Adam Maijó and Lahcen Ait Alibou completed the men’s podium.

In the women’s category, the winner was Meritxell Soler from Manresa, who finished with a spectacular time of 33:33 minutes. “It is a pleasure and a pride to run this race and win it. With this I put the cherry on top of the season”, said Soler after crossing the finish line. Douae Ouboukir and Cristina Silva finished second and third. There were also prizes for the first male and first female firefighter, who were Daniel Álvarez and Gemma Font respectively.

All participants have worn during the Cursa the new commemorative T-shirt specially designed for this edition and produced by the technical sponsor, Decathlon-Kalenji. Under the slogan “We’re back to run 10K”, runners have enjoyed the 10 kilometers of the race in a festive day enlivened by the music and ambience of Radio Flaixback, official radio station of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona. Each group of runners had its own checkroom, as well as two refreshment points for all participants, promoted by Aigües de Barcelona.

Charity race

Charity has once again been one of the pillars of this edition of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona. More than 12,000 euros have been raised through the 10 sporting challenges that Bombers Solidaris has launched through the Foundation ‘My grain of sand’. The aim is that these sporting challenges become solidarity challenges and obtain funds to collaborate with entities or non-profit organizations in different sectors, such as health, medical research, social exclusion, childhood or the environment. The challenge that has raised the most money has been the one promoted by Toni Sala for the benefit of the MUSA Association Against Cancer.
